Understand your US auto loan result
This US auto loan calculator estimates the amount financed after your down payment, trade-in, taxes, and fees. It then shows the monthly payment, total interest, and total of loan payments.
Results are for general information. Review the site disclaimer before using a result for an important decision.
Calculate the amount financed first
The amount financed starts with the vehicle price, sales tax, and fees you enter. Your down payment and trade-in value reduce the amount you need to borrow.
Optional products, registration charges, dealer fees, and add-ons can change the amount financed. Enter them when they are included in the written offer rather than relying on a headline vehicle price.
Compare APR and term, not only the monthly payment
A longer loan term can lower the monthly payment while increasing the interest paid over the life of the loan. Compare the APR, term, amount financed, monthly payment, and total cost together.
Run the same vehicle price through two or more scenarios. This makes it easier to see whether a lower payment comes from a better offer or simply from borrowing for longer.
Check the full cost of owning the vehicle
The calculator estimates loan payments only. Insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs, registration, and optional add-ons can make the total cost of the vehicle much higher.
Use the lender's written contract and Truth in Lending disclosures as the final source for the finance charge, amount financed, APR, and payment schedule.
