Discount calculator: check the sale price and the saving

A clear way to calculate a sale price, compare offers, and avoid adding successive discounts incorrectly.

The saving is a share of the original price

A discount percentage is calculated from the original listed price. For a Rs. 3,500 item with a 15% discount, the saving is Rs. 525 and the sale price is Rs. 2,975.

Writing down both numbers makes comparison easier. A large percentage may not save more money than a smaller percentage on a higher-priced item.

Apply successive discounts one at a time

When an offer says 20% off and then an extra 10% off, the second reduction is calculated on the reduced price. It is not a straight 30% reduction from the original amount.

This matters when comparing bundles, coupon codes, and clearance offers. Use the final checkout price as the simplest comparison point.

Look beyond the percentage label

Delivery charges, taxes, return conditions, warranties, and required add-ons can all affect the total amount you pay. A discount calculator helps with the price reduction, but it cannot see the full terms of an offer.

Before buying, review the final price and the offer conditions shown by the seller. This is especially useful for limited-time or membership-linked promotions.
