Calculation notes

How to use this result with confidence

Method

The calculator checks each date in the selected range, excludes the weekend pattern you choose, and removes any excluded holiday dates entered for the count.

Worked example

A Monday-to-Friday range from Monday through Friday contains five working days before holidays are removed. A range crossing a weekend counts only the selected weekdays.

Check before relying on it

A country's public holidays, company shutdowns, part-time schedule, and contract rules are not known automatically. Add the relevant dates and confirm formal deadlines with the responsible organisation.

Guide

Understand your Working days result

A working days calculator counts the days in a date range that do not fall on your selected weekend. It is useful for planning, but official deadlines may also exclude public holidays or follow special counting rules.

Results are for general information. Review the site disclaimer before using a result for an important decision.

Choose the weekend pattern that applies

Many workplaces use Saturday and Sunday as weekends, while some count Saturday as a working day or follow a Friday-Saturday weekend. Choose the option that reflects the schedule you are planning around.

The calculator counts both the start and end date by default. This inclusive method is useful for planning how many available workdays fall inside a date range.

Subtract weekday holidays separately

Public holidays vary by country, state, organisation, and year. Enter the number of additional excluded weekdays that fall inside your selected range when you need a closer estimate.

Do not subtract a holiday twice when it already falls on a selected weekend. The additional excluded-days field should contain only days that would otherwise have been counted as working days.

How many working days are in a year or month?

As a rough Monday-to-Friday estimate, a calendar year contains about 260 weekdays before public holidays. A month commonly contains around 20 to 23 weekdays, depending on its length and which day it starts on.

For an exact answer, enter the specific date range, choose the weekend pattern, and subtract weekday holidays that apply to your country or workplace.

Check formal deadline rules

A contract, court, government notice, delivery promise, or employment policy may define a business day differently. It may also exclude local holidays or treat the first day differently.

Use this result to plan, then verify the relevant written rule whenever the date affects a legal, financial, or employment obligation.
