Understand your Hours to decimal result
Decimal hours express minutes as a fraction of an hour. This is useful when a timesheet, payroll system, invoice, or spreadsheet expects one decimal value instead of an hours-and-minutes format.

Minutes are fractions of sixty
To convert minutes to decimal hours, divide the minutes by 60 and add the result to the whole hours. Thirty minutes is 0.5 hours, while fifteen minutes is 0.25 hours.
This means 7 hours 30 minutes becomes 7.5 decimal hours. Writing 7.30 would not mean the same thing in a decimal-hours system.
Convert a decimal back to minutes
Keep the whole-number portion as hours. Multiply the decimal portion by 60 to get minutes. For example, the decimal portion of 6.75 is 0.75, which becomes 45 minutes.
The converter rounds to the nearest minute when changing a decimal back into an hours-and-minutes result.
Follow the required rounding rule
Some systems record two decimal places, while others round to the nearest five, six, ten, or fifteen minutes. A conversion and a rounding policy are separate steps.
